Meet Joe and Goe (pronounced 'joe') two Custodians with a cart packed full of whimsy!
Equipped with the latest in Janitorial Clowning Technology, Joe and Goe gallivant through Children's Hospital in New Orleans, bringing joy and their own brand of creative cleaning to lobbies, halls, and administrative offices.
Becca Chapman (Executive Director, “Goe”): Becca has been an educator at Trinity Episcopal School for over six years. She is an active theatrical performer, and has a variety of training in physical theatre, some of which include: clown, stage combat, and circus. She holds a Masters in Education from The University of New Orleans (certified in grades 1st-5th) and a Bachelor’s of Performing Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi. Becca has trained with Jeff Raz in San Francisco, Pig Iron Theatre Company in Philadelphia, Ronlin Foreman of Dell’Arte International in Blue Lake, California, and Giovanni Fusetti in Boulder, Colorado. This summer she will be studying Commedia in Reggio Emilia, Italy under Antonio Fava. She has also trained in static trapeze, aerial sling, and partner acro locally at Fly Circus Space and in Brattleboro, Vermont at New England Center for Circus Arts. She is also a Dueling Arts International certified theatrical combatant in broadsword, rapier dagger, unarmed combat, and quarter staff. Becca was recently seen as "Esme" in NOLA Project's original play, The Spider Queen which took place in The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA. She and Alex can often be caught testing out their new clowning ideas in Fly Circus space's Fly Movement Salon the first Tuesday of every month at Cafe' Istanbul.
Alex Smith (Artistic Director, “Joe”): A seasoned stage performer, Alex holds a degree in Performance and a degree in Technical Theatre from Whitworth University. He has over three and a half years of youth theatre education experience with many organizations in Washington State and locally, including Southern Rep, Trinity Episcopal School, Newman School, and Success Prep Academy. He teaches ages ranging from 4 to 18. He is well versed in physical theatre, including mime and has Actor-Combatant certifications from Dueling Arts International in Broadsword, Single Rapier, Quarterstaff, Rapier/Dagger, Small-sword, and Unarmed stage combat. Recent stage performances include "Manfred" in Le Petit's Sleeping Beauty Panto, and a reccurring role in Southern Rep Theatre's ongoing live soap opera Debauchery, as the dashing and dastardly "Nigel Killjoy". He is currently the Technical Director for Southern Rep Theatre. He has trained under Jeff Raz, a Cirque de Soleil clown and casting agent, as well as professional clowns and performers Darci Fulcher and Jenny Sargent. Catch Alex swinging from ladders behind the scenes, tossing Becca about the stage at Cafe' Istanbul where many of their clown acts are previewed and performed during the monthly Fly Movement Salons, or enjoying an afternoon of swashbuckling at the park as he pursues his Teaching Certificate in stage combat.
